Hospice House
The Rowan Hospice House Advisory Committee, chaired by Libby Gish, Tippie Miller and Harold Earnhardt, has been working closely with Dari Caldwell, president of Rowan Regional and Edwina Ritchie, Director of Hospice Services, in developing the best plan for the new Hospice House.
Working with Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce, an architectural firm experienced in designing hospice hoses, the group has designed what will be the finest hospice house in the area.
Other community leaders serving on the committee include: Dr. Chet Amin, Tony Blackwell, Dr. William Brinkley, Joyce Caddell, Susan Ketner, Dyke Messinger, Dr. Gautam Patel, Carolyn Peck, Bill Wagoner and D.J. Whitfield.
Local builder, Summit Developers was awarded the contract for the project. Dari Caldwell, President of RRMC, said "I am delighted that Summit Developers, who has a reputation for quality, will be working with us to make this hospice house a reality."
With approximately 15,000 square feet, the Hospice House is designed with a home-like atmosphere to ensure the highest level of comfort for patients and family members.
The Rowan Hospice House will feature 14 patient care rooms, seven hospice care beds and seven respite beds.
Respite care services are designed for short-term relief (up to five consecutive days) from the burdens of 24-hour care-giving for family members.
Private patient rooms will feature a love seat that converts to a bed if a family member wishes to spend the night.
Family rooms will have refrigerators and microwaves for use by family members and other visitors.
Spacious sunrooms will be located at the end of each wing of patient rooms and will provide a light-filled retreat for patients and families.
A multi-faith chapel will serve patients, family and staff.
Rowan Hospice House will be the first facility of its kind in Rowan County and will represent a new means of providing the remarkable experience of hospice care in our community.
