Gestational Diabetes/Diabetes and Pregnancy Program

This program provides in-depth education on managing gestational diabetes and pre-existing diabetes and pregnancy.

For patients with gestational diabetes, the curriculum includes:
  • Explanation of gestational diabetes
  • Risks to the baby
  • Prevention of Type 2 diabetes postpartum
  • Blood glucose monitoring and glucose goals
  • Exercise
  • Stress management
  • Nutrition education and individualized meal plans
  • Signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia
  • Goal-setting
  • Insulin instruction when needed
Ongoing follow-up is provided throughout pregnancy as needed.

For patients with pre-existing diabetes, the curriculum includes:
  • Explanation of risks for mother and baby
  • Blood glucose monitoring and glucose goals
  • Exercise
  • Stress management
  • Nutrition education and individualized meal plans
  • Signs and symptoms of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia
  • Goal-setting
  • Insulin instruction
Ongoing follow-up is provided throughout pregnancy as needed.

Pre-pregnancy counseling for patients with pre-existing diabetes:
This individual session includes an explanation of the risks for mother and baby, carbohydrate counting and intensive insulin therapy to achieve tight glucose control as needed prior to conception.
