The Smith Heart & Vascular Center, the site of the hospital's former Emergency Department at the corner of Mocksville and Confederate Avenues, celebrated its grand opening on July 30, 2007.

The Smith Heart & Vascular Center was created with a $5.4 million cash gift from the Wilson L. Smith family and an initial $100,000 gift from Arnold H. Snider, III.

The 12,000-square foot facility not only triples the current space for cardiovascular patients, but also centralizes Rowan Regional Medical Center's cardiovascular services under one department. The Center houses a diagnostic and interventional heart catherterization lab, stress testing area, echocardiography, and an interventional radiology section for diagnosing and treating blockages of the peripheral vascular system. In addition, the facility includes an expanded nuclear medicine lab and ultrasound, mammography and stereotactic biopsy labs.

The Smith Heart & Vascular Center also encompasses the nationally certified Cardiac Rehabilitation & Wellness Center, which offers a program to physician-referred patients that included exercise, nutrition, and lifestyle approaches to promote heart health.
