Admission Criteria

Hospice offers comforting care to persons with a limited life expectancy and their families, regardless of diagnosis, age, gender, nationality, race, creed, sexual preference, disability or ability to pay. Patients appropriate for hospice care should meet the following criteria:
  • Have a limited life expectancy with the anticipated prognosis six months or less as determined by the physician.
  • Have a designated North Carolina board-certified attending physician who is willing to work with the hospice team.
  • Be seeking comfort care rather than curative treatment.
  • Have a responsible caregiver or, if one is not available, agree to develop an alternate plan of care consistent with the patient's safety and needs and in compliance with hospice standards.
Our staff acknowledges and respects end of life choices made by individual patients and family. Rowan Regional Hospice does not require a Do Not Resuscitate status for admission to hospice home care services. Patients and caregivers are given information and counseling regarding end of life decisions.
