Laboratory Test Catalog Introduction

The purpose of this manual is to provide detailed information on laboratory tests including many sent to our reference laboratory. For all tests, the type of sample (ie, blood, urine, etc.), and the amount needed is listed. In addition, any necessary conditions such as preservatives, time limits, etc., are noted under each test. Brief interpretive material is included under some test results. In addition to the internet version of this manual, an Alphabetical Index is provided which lists all test names and all synonyms with page numbers for quick and easy reference. Many members of the laboratory staff have been involved in the preparation of this manual. We sincerely hope it meets your needs.

Rowan Regional Medical Center laboratory is accredited by The Joint Commission and The College of American Pathologists. Periodic review of this accreditation is completed by these agencies, and participation in the accreditation process helps provide continuous high quality laboratory testing. Daily control systems are in place to provide ongoing monitoring of testing.

The laboratory is staffed around the clock, seven days a week according to patient needs. The department is computerized and provides electronic test requisitions and reports data via the hospital and laboratory computer systems. The Laboratory Test Catalog, or Directory of Services, is available via the Physicians website on the RRMC Intranet. Barcode labeling of samples is employed in an effort to reduce specimen identification errors. Laboratory staff and pathologists are available for consultation.

The Laboratory Medical Director works with three additional pathologists in the direction of the laboratory. Each pathologist is board certified by the American Board of Pathology in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology; all are fellows of The College of American Pathologists.

The Medical Director, Laboratory Administrative Director, Laboratory Technical and Non-Technical Managers, Supervising Technologists, Customer Service Supervisor and the Billing/Coding Supervisor comprise the administrative staff of the laboratory. Each section of the laboratory is headed by the Technical Coordinator or supervisory technologist, who supervises technical and administrative functions of that section.
