Novant Health
Novant Health is a not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system based in North Carolina that serves more than 3.5 million people in 34 counties reaching from Northern Virginia to Georgia.
Novant was formed July 1, 1997 by the merger of Carolina Medicorp of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Presbyterian Health Services of Charlotte, North Carolina. Thomasville Medical Center joined the system in 1997. Brunswick Novant Medical Center (previously called Brunswick Community Hospital) joined in 2006. Rowan Regional Medical Center joined the system in 2008.
The largest components of Novant Health are Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem with 921 beds, Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte with 607 beds, Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury with 268 beds and Thomasville Medical Center in Thomasville with 146 beds. Novant employs 26,000 people and has more than 1,100 physicians in its medical group.
Other hospitals include: Franklin Regional Medical Center outside of Raleigh, Kernersville Medical Center, Medical Park Hospital in Winston-Salem, Presbyterian Hospital Huntersville, Presbyterian Hospital Matthews, Presbyterian Orthopaedic Hospital in Charlotte, Prince William Hospital in Northern Virginia, and Upstate Carolina Medical Center near Gaffney, S.C. Other facilities and programs of Novant Health include four philanthropic foundations, three nursing home and senior residential facilities, nearly 350 physician clinics, outpatient surgery, imaging and diagnostic centers, rehabilitation programs and community health outreach programs.
Our facilities and physicians participate in virtually every managed care plan, which provides local employers and consumers with a significant degree of choice in the marketplace.
Awards and Special Recognitions
Novant Health and its staff received the 2006 President's Award for commitment to service excellence for patients, physicians and employees. The President's Award is the highest recognition presented to only one healthcare organization in the nation each year by Professional Research Consultants (PRC), a nationally known healthcare research company. Novant Health also received the prestigious
Ernest A. Codman award in 2008 and 2004
for improving the quality and safety of care provided to patients, presented by The Joint Commission. Novant has been nationally recognized as the Best in Industry for Working Mothers by Working Mother Magazine and one of the Top 40 Family-Friendly NC Companies by Charlotte Parent and Piedmont Parent magazines. In addition, Novant Health has been named to Modern Healthcare's list of the top 100 integrated health networks in the nation, ranking 4th in 2008. In 2004, Novant Health was named as one of the nation's 25 Most Improved hospitals on the annual Most Wired list, published by Hospitals & Health Networks magazine. The award recognized hospitals and health systems who are leading the way in effectively using Internet technologies for quality, safety, business and workforce initiatives.
Community Involvement
Novant Health providers and facilities regularly reach out to their communities to benefit at-risk and disadvantaged populations. Novant provides community education and screenings and supports health clinics that provide care for the uninsured. In addition, facilities and staff members are active in various community partnerships that benefit organizations like United Way, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Physician Reach Out, Habitat for Humanity and many others.
