Physical Rehabilitation: Acute Care

Because illness, stroke, fractures, and prolonged bed rest can lead to debilitation and loss of function, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Speech Therapy services are available to patients while they are in the hospital. Rowan Regional Medical Center is the only facility in the region to offer these therapies across the entire continuum of care.

At this level of care, Physical Therapy focuses on general strengthening, mobility, gait and balance skills to help patients return to home or advance to the next level of rehabilitation.
Occupational Therapy in acute care helps patients regain the ability to perform activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming and self-feeding. Upper extremity strength and coordination are also addressed.

Speech Therapy works with patients to improve language and communication skills. Tests and exercises are also available for patients with difficulty swallowing.
A physician must order therapy services in acute care. Therapists are available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on weekends and holidays starting at 8:00 am. Our office may be reached at (704) 210-5077.
