As you grow up and become more social and get more freedom, you’re going to be faced with more pressures from your peers. If you’re around people who drink alcohol, use drugs or smoke cigarettes, you might feel uncomfortable, scared or curious. You don’t know if you should “fit in” with your friends, or if you should stay away from them. You don’t know if you want to try out these substances, or shun them for good. The truth is that alcohol and cigarettes are both drugs, even though they are legal for adults (over age 21 and 18, respectively) to use. Drinking, smoking and using other drugs is very bad for your health, and can have other effects on your life that could be extremely damaging. If you feel curious about trying out anything, look up the facts and talk with older people who you trust or who you know take great care of their health. Most young people take a drink, try a cigarette or experiment with drugs because they want to fit in or get something they think these substances provide. Unfortunately, what may start out as curiosity can turn into habits that are hard to break, bad for your health, and more. Here are some things you should consider.
