The
OB/GYN is very important to a woman’s health because he or
she is trained specifically to evaluate your reproductive and vaginal
health. That means that the OB/GYN examines the reproductive system,
which includes the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, vulva
and breasts. If you feel like you are perfectly normal
and have no health problems, it is still important to visit the gynecologist.
If you establish a routine of going to the gynecologist
every year, your doctor will get to know your body and might be able
to detect any problems early on. The gynecologist will also give
you advice and guidelines on how to prevent reproductive health problems.
So, the gynecologist’s office is a very good idea for three
reasons. First, it will help to detect any problems early on so
that you can manage your health. Second, the OB/GYN will help you
to prevent
health problems from happening later on. And third, the OB/GYN
will help you make good choices for your overall health.
A good
standard
guideline to use in determining when to begin seeing an OB/GYN
is between the ages of 18-21. Once you go to the OB/GYN
office, it becomes a yearly thing. This is called the annual
visit. Women need to establish a routine of going to the OB/GYN
once a
year to maintain their health and so that their OB/GYN can track
their
reproductive health and stay informed about any conditions or
problems that might develop. As you become sexually active or if
you have
health problems, you might have to go to the OB/GYN more often.
