Many
women don’t realize that some vaginal discharge is to be expected
from their natural menstrual
cycle. Your vagina produces what is
known as a “healthy” amount of discharge. This discharge
is usually clear, slightly cloudy, non-irritating and odorless. Sometimes, “healthy” discharge
will be inconsistent—thicker or more watery at different times
throughout your menstrual cycle. If you experience the regular discharge
characterized above, there is no need for concern. However, abnormal
discharge may be a symptom of an infection. This type of “unhealthy” vaginal
discharge usually has an unpleasant odor. Abnormal discharge may
also be irritating, and can be accompanied by itchiness and/or burning. |
